Kas’ 2004 Subaru STI

Let me start off by wishing everyone a Happy New Year and all the best for 2009 on behalf of Intuned Online. I also wanted to take the time to apologize for the delay in new features. For those of you who live in Canada almost everything slows down, including writers.

As we sit in the coldest month of the year; we decided to kick off 2009 with a 4WD beast from the great white north. Our journey takes us to the greater Toronto area where we met Kas Tsang a fellow enthusiast and JDM addict just like us. Kas offered to show us around Toronto but instead we checked out his 04 STI. JDM addicts are normally very meticulous people that pay very close attention to every detail; this is no exception as this Subaru is just as clean as when it rolled out of the dealership but with much healthier options.

The exterior of the Subaru was upgraded with one of the best looking kits in production today; the Chargespeed aero kit added the additional finish to what was already an aggressive looking car. To reduce some weight the stock hood was replaced with an HKS Kansai bonnet which tied in perfectly to the custom painted headlight housings. Additional down force was provided courtesy of a Voltex carbon fiber spoiler.

The interior looks like every JDM fanatics wish list with Bride seats, Takata harness and Defi gauges, for the true enthusiast there are also many additional OEM Japan parts which set this STI apart from its North American brothers and sisters. Keeping the Japanese theme throughout the car is sometimes tough, but the car was wired with a killer sound system featuring a full range of Eclipse products.

The Subaru STI is already well known for handling from its long rally racing heritage along with those older commercials with Crocodile Dundee but Kas opted for a few more upgrades with parts from Cusco and Cobb. The stance and traction were provided by a set of 18” Volk Racing LE28s wrapped in Hankook rubber.

The heart of this beast also received its fair share of work and upgrades. The short list would be that Kas likes speed; the original turbo was replaced, along with the OEM intercooler. Additional air taken in also needs a way to go out so a new race header was used along with an upgraded downpipe. After the physical engine parts were changed and all the new demands were in place, Neetronic tuned the ECU to a very impressive 384WHP.

Growing up in a climate that has winter almost 5 months of the year; we definitely have learned to appreciate our Subaru’s in all shapes and sizes. We’re especially fond of cars like Kas’ which demonstrate some great taste and some home grown horsepower, maybe next time he’ll let us drive.
