02 Apr, 2012

Today was an exciting day in Autobacs Super GT Racing as the 2012 season officially opened in Okayama, Japan. The dry, sunny conditions were perfect for the season opener as all the competitors took to the track.

Aside from practice sessions this was the first time the teams took to the track together with changes to the vehicles and some new drivers compared to last season. The competition was absolutely fierce as each racer wanted to take the lead during the first race of the season. Zent Cerumo Lexus SC430 piloted by Yuji Tachikawa & Kohei Hirate took 1st overall in the GT500 class with the Raybrig Honda HSV-010 only 0.588 seconds behind them making it an extremely close finish. Honda rounded up the last podium position with Keihin's HSV-010.

The GT300 class was much more spread for the 1st race of the season and really came down to two cars.
