The Corolla’s of this time have become a favorite for Tuners. The 80’s were a very unique time for car owners as they had some choices that would never appear again. We saw the rise of the stainless steel bodied Delorean, the fall of the AMC Gremlin’s and Pacer’s and Toyota building some of the last (excluding the Supra) rear wheel drive platform cars. This takes us to this weeks feature a 1985 Corolla GT-S (AE85). The Corolla’s of this time have become a favorite for Tuners & Drifters alike with the lightweight chassis and RWD propulsion make it a fun car to modify. John’s car was flagged down for us by our photographer Kashime who said “you have to check out this car” and after seeing some photos we couldn’t agree more. The first thing you notice about this particular Corolla is the color which was taken directly off the luxurious Aston Martin, the next thing that caught our eye was the very JDM and clean looking Vertex body kit. Over the years I’ve seen many different engines go into these cars from the F20C’s out of the Honda S2000, SR20’s from Nissan to the 2JZ-GTE out of Toyota’s Supra which was also an Intuned Online feature a couple of weeks back.

This particular AE85 was running the classic 4A-GE inline four engine which was massaged with some key power parts like the HKS exhaust manifold which allowed the bolt in of the T-28 Turbo getting fed through the Top Hat Intercooler. To help get spark and fuel into the motor John went with a little old school system of a Ford EDIS (Electronic Distributor less Ignition System) and to manage everything; in my best Vin Diesel voice – stand along fuel management system from Megasquirt ; making this Corolla an attention getter. On the inside a Bride Brix seat and M’s Sport steering wheel help keep John in full control of the car as well as a series of Defi gauges to monitor everything under the hood.
