The 2016 Scion FR-S

11 Jun, 2015

Ignite your passion for the drive: the 2016 Scion FR-S combines a strong, sensual body design, a driver focused cockpit, and performance that redefines agility and responsiveness. New for the 2016 model year, the Scion FR-S is now standard equipped with a back-up camera, plus fresh designs for interior details – from the door grips and centre console side ornaments to the bezels in the steering wheel and shifter.

“The FR-S is Scion’s performance driving machine – focussed on giving you pure joy and excitement with every drive,” said Cyril Dimitris, Director of Scion in Canada. “Drawing on decades of rallying experience in legendary Toyota vehicles – including the Sports 800, the 2000GT, and the AE86 – the Scion FR-S is the authentic sports car that merges compelling style with exceptionally balanced performance and handling.”

The FR-S presents a sleek profile, a low stance enhanced by flared fenders, and a menacing face. This aggressive exterior delivers function as well as form, with a highly rigid body and lightweight components that keep the vehicle’s weight below 1,300 kg. Combined with a 200hp, 2.0L four-cylinder boxer engine, and a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, the

FR-S delivers powerful acceleration. Careful attention to steering, handling and stability systems coupled with close attention to balanced body weight and aerodynamics give the FR-S impressive agility and exceptional straight-line stability.

Inside, the FR-S features a 2+2 seating configuration with front seats that are comfortable yet assertive, to hold you and your navigator securely. The rear seats fold flat, too – so there’s room to carry everything from your gear to a set of racing tires.

Slip behind the wheel, and the FR-S is at your service. A three-gauge cluster focusses on the large, centre-mounted tachometer, while a frameless rear view mirror is designed to maximize the clear view ahead. Speed readouts are in both digital and analogue. And the steering wheel is specially designed to offer exceptional grip and excellent turning performance, while aluminum sport pedals with rubber inserts contribute to a sporty feel and confident operation. If you are missing these pieces then getting them done by a custom rubber parts manufacturing company is a great option.

The FR-S is already fully loaded with safety systems – from six airbags and a direct tire pressure monitoring system, active front headrests with whiplash protection and the six active safety technologies of Scion’s Star Safety System™. An advanced Vehicle Stability Control system offers five operating modes, allowing drivers to adjust the system’s performance to suit their preferences and the driving conditions.

As a Scion, the 2016 FR-S comes in a monospec configuration, loaded with a range of comfort and convenience features built right in – no trim package required.

The extensive list of standard features, include: air conditioning; eight-speakers; new 7” touch-screen Display Audio system with advanced voice recognition, Aha Radio; back-up camera; keyless entry; illuminated trunk switch; two 12-volt power outlets; plenty of smart in-cabin storage; power windows with auto up/down function; leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob; carbon-pattern instrument panel in gun-metal finish; cruise control; shark fin-style antenna; 17” aluminum alloy wheels; halogen headlights with the automatic headlamp system; dual exhaust; dual power adjustable and heated exterior mirrors; and more. Two new colours are also offered for 2016 to ensure you stand out from the crown; Ablaze and Oceanic.

In addition to its wide range of standard features available upgrades include: a premium display audio system with navigation; Bongiovi Acoustics digital signal processing system; lowering springs and sway bars; and a selection of factory personalization parts and accessories, including high performance parts from Toyota Racing Development.

The 2016 Scion FR-S is now on sale at Canadian Scion Dealers, with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price starting at $27,490 for manual transmission models and $28,670 for automatic transmission models.
