Ken Shaw’s version of Hachi-Roku

The Japanese culture has many ideas and customs that are much different from North America, there are however some similarities. For example if you say Hachi-Roku in Japan or Eight-Six in North America you will still get the same reaction with everybody thinking about the potential these cars have. The early to mid 80’s Corollas or (Truenos & Levins) in Japan were some of the first cars to be used for drifting due to their compact size, lighter bodies and of course rear wheel drive propulsion. We found this particular AE86 at Ken Shaw’s Lexus & Toyota in Ontario, Canada. Ken had built this Corolla to go as fast as possible; over the years we’ve seen many unique engine swaps for the Corolla and Ken’s is no different. Ken’s AE86 found its heart from a Toyota Supra using a 2JZ GTE which was then upgraded to single turbo setup for better efficiency. To make sure Ken had the right air/fuel mixture in the car he opted for an Altech Intake Manifold. The outside of this AE86 was kept simple with some small JDM touches and painted Gunmetal Gray from the IS300. On the inside is everything a racer or an astronaut would need with a full roll cage, AEM gauges and Momo steering wheel; because Ken spends most of his time going in a straight line he added custom drag suspension to help get better times and traction. This Hachi-Roku is very clean and powerful, we wonder if we’ll ever be able to hear Ken yell “Banzai” when he takes off down the track.
